Paul Davies

Born in Epsom, Surrey in 1953 Paul Davies starts to teach himself guitar at the age of fourteen. Previous to this he had played the drums and had sung in the school choir. He listens to practically all the groups of that era, Cream, Taste, Ten Years After, Jimi Hendrix etc. At the age of sixteen he discovers jazz musicians such as Wes Montgomery, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Grant Green through listening to the American Forces Network radio. At the same time he also listens to Debussy, Ravel, Stravinsky, Bartok, Vaughan Williams as well as taking a keen interest in literature and art. At leaving school for university his interests develop to include the cinema (Bunuel, Truffaut), the English jazz and free jazz scene (John Surman, John Maclaughlin, Alan Skidmore, Dave Holland, Evan Parker, Derek Bailey, Tony Oxley) and contempory music (Stockhausen, Berio, Steve Reich)

Rocco Carella

Born in the Bari suburbs (South Italy) in 1973 starts at 6 years to learn guitar with classical studies, but then stopped studies for soccer. In the teen age after a live show of Pink Floyd near Naples dust is for always removed from his guitar. Around 20 becomes the guitarist of a quiet famous local rock-progressive band, in the same period he starts to study jazz and fusion with some of the best local jazz guitar players. Jazz enters always more in his music and he performs with several local artists in Bari and in Puglia Region playing different styles. Classical and electrical guitar are both used depending on the context. In 2011 is released the 1st album Portrait of my land all played with classical guitar with a world music approach in a fusion of jazz, bossa, tango, classical. In 2012 the second album I'm so far from the crowd, more jazz, where classical and electric guitar are played both. Guitarists who inspires him are John Scofield, Mike Stern, Wes Montgomery, George Benson but also rock/blues guitar players as Steve Rothery, Jimi Hendrix, Mark Knoepfler, Pino Daniele, Eric Clapton and classical guitarists and composers as well. Most influential musicians for him are John Coltrane, McCoy Tyner, Bill Evans, Wayne Shorter, Cannonball Adderley.

Elijah Cole
Born:
Elijah Cole is one of the premier young jazz musicians in the Washington, D.C. area. At the age of 16, he has already performed at the area's top jazz clubs, including Twins, HR-57, Blues Alley, and Dukem. As a member of the Capital Focus Jazz Band and the Jazz Academy Orchestra, he has traveled from New Orleans to San Diego, performing at the famous Preservation Hall and backing artists such as Terrell Stafford and Brian Lynch. Additionally, he has played with many of his influences on the guitar, including Russell Malone, John Pizzarelli, and Carl LeBlanc. This year, Elijah has been selected as the guitarist in the 2015 Maryland All-State Jazz ensemble, for Jazz at Lincoln Center's summer institute for advanced jazz study, for the Brubeck Institute's Summer Jazz Colony, and as the alternate guitarist for the Jazz Band of America.

Young Gu Kim is a guitarist and composer from South Korea. He studied music at the Conservatory of Amsterdam, Purchase College, and the City College of New York, and earned his bachelor’s degree from the Conservatory of Amsterdam, and master’s degree from the City College of New York. His teachers include John Abercrombie, John Patitucci, Steve Cardenas, Ben Monder, Jesse van Ruller, and Connie Crothers. He has been involved in various musical projects and performed in Seoul, Oslo, Porto, Amsterdam, and New York. He led his own quartet consisting of young talented musicians from New York City, and released his debut recording “Small Community” in 2014.
