Bob Shimizu

Introducing "Lets Get Together" the latest release from jazz-guitarist Bob Shimizu. "Let's Get Together", Shimizu's second solo release, is a celebration of the song-book of a life-time and a musical journey that pays homage to jazz standards and selections from the great American pop and rock song-books. Produced by veteran Clarke Rigsby (Joey DeFrancesco, Jimmy Smith, Tower Of Power) the album features Shimizu's Arizona-based quartet including Mario Mendivil (elec. bass), Lamar Gaines (piano, Wurlitzer, Clavinet), Mike Florio (drums) and Todd Chuba (percussion) as well as a vocal cameo by singer-songwriter Obadiah Parker (Grandma's Hands), who lends grit and soul to the session. Shimizu's trek into the non-traditional also includes a foray into the traditional organ-trio setting featuring New Yorkers Pat Bianchi on Hammond B3, and Carmen Intorre on drums (both on-loan from the Pat Martino Trio). "Let's Get Together" presents Shimizu's unusual take on "standards"

Dan Redding
Born:
Hello all... Please check out www.danredding.co.uk for more on me!!! I started playing guitar when I was around 15 years old and decided to study music properly after failing most of my A levels, as I was too busy saving up for bigger amplifiers and better guitars! When I was 19 I went to university near London and was exposed to jazz for the first time. I was able to see all the incredibly talented Jazz musicians the city has to offer and was blown away. I bought a real book and learnt to play over chords, and brought every cheap jazz CD I could lay my hands on. I’ve played in all kinds of different musical acts from the most outrageous cabaret nonsense you can imagine, to playing my own composition with original bands and of course I’ve done many a function gig along the way…

Estudiantina Ensemble
Born:
Estudiantina Ensemble: The Estudiantina Ensemble plays in the tradition of the Estudiantina-music from Cuba (musical groups formed of students), of which the only original 1927 dating Estudiantina Invasora from Santiago de Cuba exists. At the base is the Danzón-clave, in the 8-piece band with a special instrument “Pailitas” also known as the Baroque Timpani, two small kettle drums of French baroque orgine that had come through from Haiti. These are the forerunners of the famous contemporary Timbales that are used in many Salsa bands. Where the Salsa and modern Timba is being played fast and forward, this Danzón / Son-tradition is more laid-back, rather behind the beat than played in front of the beat
