Robert Denton

Born:

I am a self taught guitarist. I was raised in the South in the 60s and got my first cheap old guitar from my brother Jim. I learned to play by listening to my brother's records. I would listen for hours to the Beatles, Hendrix, Clapton, Beck, Akkerman, Muddy Waters, B.B. King the guitar pioneers of their day. I started a band when I was 15 and never looked back. Music has always been an important part of my life and the guitar is like an extension of myself - My soul. I am the most fortunate non-acting speaker and self-taught guitarist I know. Vangogh is my inspiration and my playing is all about tone and feeling, not technical ability or how fast I can play

Musician

Joel Harrison

Born:

As guitarist, composer and vocalist, Washington D.C. native Joel Harrison resists categorization: jazz, African and Indian, contemporary classical, blues and rock all have a place in his unique approach. Remarking on his eclectic approach All About Jazz concluded that “Harrison’s ability to integrate renders irrelevant the identification of his sources in compositions that range from edgy angularity to sheer beauty…he dispenses with boundaries and creates his own mélange that’s as timeless as it is thoroughly modern." Harrison graduated from Bard College with a BA in composition and performance in 1980 studying with Joan Tower; in the ensuing years he worked privately with Allaudin Mathieu, Charlie Banacos, Ali Akbar Khan and others

Nick Kepics

Born:

I was born April 22, 1949 in Tarentum, Pennsylvania. I basically spent the first 10 years of my life growing up on or around farms in Western Pa. My father gave me my first guitar when I was 14 (1963). I learned how to tune it listening to Surfin' USA by the Beach Boys. I played by ear until about 1980 when I decided to teach myself how to read music. Growing up I listened to absolutely everything, which is not the best way to learn guitar properly. I took in guitar players from Kenny Burrell to Jimi Hendrix. I also listened to a lot of Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Hubert Laws, Bill Evans, Herbie Hancock and Oscar Peterson to name just a few

David Esmond

Born:

what IS squirt? squirt is the solo guitar playing of dave esmond. the idea behind squirt is creation. creating moments in time. creating music. creating songs and sounds on the spot. there are no real squirt songs. each track is of it's moment. chords, riffs, sounds, melodies may be repeated or reused as needed. or not. it's purely improv music. i hope you enjoy listening to what i create as much as i enjoy creating it. all the tracks you hear on this site and during live performances feature only a single guitar player. no later overdubs are added. nor are any pre-recorded loops used. everything you hear is as it happens.
