Theo Spoelstra
Long time ago, in the 1980s, I spend many hours improvising on the classical guitar. I was deeply impressed by guitarists like Al Di Meola and John McLaughlin. I listened to their music almost daily. So my guitar playing was mostly inspired by these great guitarists. At one time my friends listened to my playing en recommended me to record the numbers on tape. So in the course of time there were 3 tapes of guitar music. However it remained just a hobby and as time passed by this hobby became in the background. After many years the tapes appeared to be so unique, that I decided to digitalise them. The music was never released before

Nate Najar

Born:
An accomplished guitarist-composer and Charlie Byrd devotee, nylon string
fingerstyle player Nate Najar has distinguished himself as a talent worthy of
recognition with his impressive output over the past ten years. On his latest
trio recording, Blues for Night People: The Nate Najar Trio Remembers Charlie
Byrd, the Florida-based guitarist pays tribute to an important role model with
a collection of tunes either composed by or associated with the late, great
guitarist. Najar also performs on Byrd’s own guitar, a 1974 Ramirez 1a nylon
string classical guitar, the same guitar Andres Segovia used.
Accompanied by the veteran D.C.-based rhythm tandem of drummer Chuck
Redd and bassist Tommy Cecil, Najar runs the gamut from alluring bossas
and romantic ballads to urgent swingers and delicate, classically influenced
numbers on his sixth outing as a leader

Daryl Shawn

Born:
Composer, songwriter and improviser Daryl Shawn is a genre-hopping guitarist with an appetite for varied situations. Currently using the nylon-string guitar as his primary instrument, he weds his command of flamenco and classical techniques with a harmonic imagination grounded in jazz and the abandon of a rocker as he explores a wealth of solo and collaborative opportunities. He is an active composer for solo guitar, having written complete suites of music for two weddings (collected on his 2008 release "As Promised"), as well as a growing body of more experimental pieces. Building on his experience as a songwriter for twenty years in a variety of rock and pop bands, he released a full-length collection of solo vocal songs in 2007 and is writing for several upcoming releases featuring two different groups, plus another starring a stable of different vocalists. As active as he is as a writer and composer, Shawn is perhaps becoming best known as an improviser

Phil Christie
The last song Phil Christie wrote for his new CD became its title and is the one that most defined it. Rearview Mirror with its images of “looking back and reflecting on love lost, love won, dreams unfulfilled and those dreams that may still yet come true” are a unifying thread throughout the recording’s ten tracks. The songs’ rich tones and storylines are enhanced by Doug Lancio’s (Patty Griffin, Gretchen Peters) atmospheric guitar style, Barry Walsh’s (Gretchen Peters) piano work and Bryn Davies on cello giving it touches of folk, Americana, country and rock. Produced by Christie at Nashville’s County Q Studios, where he recorded his 2002 Summerstown CD, he was also joined by Steve Sheehan on acoustic guitar, Paul Scholten on drums and percussion, Mike Joyce on bass and Perry Coleman on background vocals.
