George Haslam / João Madeira / Pedro Castello Lopes / Mário Rua: Ajuda

Read "Ajuda" reviewed by Mark Corroto

Why would a listener consider Ajuda, a free jazz recording by the quartet of British saxophonist George Haslam and this Portuguese trio, to be a meditative production? Is it quiet? Not really. Is it a solo effort? Not at all. Is it focused inward? No, and yet, yes it is if we consider the synergistic effects ...

Howard Riley: Howard Riley: Lush Life

Read "Howard Riley: Lush Life" reviewed by Duncan Heining

With the reissues of Discussions, Angle and The Day Will Come, the last few months have offered an embarrassment of riches for Howard Riley fans. We have here two recent solo recordings, one in the studio and one live in Lithuania, and a live duo album with the late, great Jaki Byard from 1985. Of course, ...

George Haslam: Words Unspoken

Read "Words Unspoken" reviewed by AAJ Italy Staff

Le penne ...

Erika Dagnino / Stefano Pastor / George Haslam / Steve Waterman: Narcéte

Read "Narcéte" reviewed by Eyal Hareuveni

This Anglo-Italian quartet presents its version of improvised jazz with poetry. The Italian side comes from poet and writer Erika Dagnino--who recites her poems in English--and violinist and double bassist Stefano Pastor. Their English partners are veteran improvisers and frequent collaborators, saxophonist George Haslam and trumpeter Steve Waterman. This recording features a happy ...

All About Jazz needs your support

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded albums and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, limited reopenings and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary step that will help musicians and venues now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the sticky footer ad). Thank you!
