Róisín Mulliez

Róisín Mulliez is a Galway-based jazz singer and choir director with a passion for two main art forms:
1. Jazz Music - particularly from the period of 1930s-1960s
2. Vocal Harmony - from smaller ensembles to larger choirs
She graduated from DCU’s BA in Jazz and Contemporary Music Performance in 2023.
While she regularly gigs with other musicians in the Galway jazz scene, she has also taken part in larger creative projects such as Tapestry Vocal Ensemble, and most notably JazzTempo, funded by Galway Music Residency. Jazztempo was a yearly collaboration between the classical string ensemble RTE Contempo Quartet and a jazz quartet of esteemed jazz musicians from around the country - Róisín being the vocalist in this quartet. In their last iteration, they performed a sold-out concert in An Taibhdhearc as part of Galway International Arts Festival.

Karl Clews

Karl began his musical odyssey at the age of 8, on the classical guitar. Having achieved a distinction at grade 8 and a Performer’s Diploma by the age of 16, Karl turned his attention to the bass guitar: ‘I was heavily into soul, funk and fusion as a teenager,’ he states, ‘and I quickly realized that it was the bass guitar that really drove and directed this kind of music.’
Influenced by such virtuoso bass players as Stanley Clarke, Jaco Pastorius, Marcus Miller, Louis Johnson, Armand Sabal-Lecco and Mark King, Karl developed a distinctive percussive and rhythmic style that quickly established him as an in-demand player for jazz, blues and soul bands whilst still at university in Oxford
