Freda Proctor

A native of Osage City, Kansas, Freda Peterson Proctor began her musical studies at age 5 as a piano student, then added flute in the 5th grade. Her older sister started teaching her organ shortly after, and she became the organist for the Methodist Church at age 12. Freda received a Bachelor of Music with a double major in piano and flute performance from Wichita State University and a Master of Arts in piano from Eastern Illinois University. She spent several years in the Chicago area, teaching flute at Wheaton College, piano at the College of DuPage, accompanying professionally, playing flute in a small symphony, and playing the organ at a large church. Back in Kansas, she taught piano and organ at Manhattan Christian College, continuing education at K-State, and maintained a studio of private students before joining the faculty of Saint Mary College where she taught music theory, piano, and flute, and directed the community band. She retired from the University of Saint Mary in 2015, after 27 years of service
