Fred Horn: A Brief Musical Journey

From Milwaukee to the West Coast

Fred Horn, a saxophonist from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, began playing in junior high and quickly gained recognition, winning a school talent show and the Milwaukee Civic Music Award. After high school, he attended North Texas State and later the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where the jazz ensemble tied for first at the Notre Dame Jazz Festival.

In 1974, he moved to Berkeley, California, performing with Top 40 and R&B/funk horn bands for ten years. Relocating to Los Angeles in 1987, he became known as the "King of the Coffee Houses" for his jazz performances
