Frank grew up to the phonograph playing Glenn Miller, Woody Herman, Duke Ellington, and all the other dance bands greatest hits driving deep a love of that swing feel. His mother would play guitar and sing a lot of folk and popular tunes from her day, establishing a desire to play guitar and sing himself. These two elements combined to eventually evolve into what became the foundation of his musical vision. He started wanting to play rock-n-roll, but after mastering the power chord felt a need for something more intricate. The first real satisfaction of that need was found in the artistry of Jerry Garcia, whom he used to sit for hours trying to imitate. A love for Jerry's drawn-out, heart-felt solos led him to the jazz greats and eventually an Education in Jazz
