Danica Hobden's Warmbluetig

Active since:
Warmbluetig is a four-piece modern jazz ensemble drawing upon the interaction of folkloric storytelling with spontaneous improvisation. Led by Australian guitarist and composer, Danica Hobden, the music is heavily inspired by the Australian jazz music scene and its textural and gesture-rich approach to composition. The compositions set the scene for the musicians to explore their own personal expression of sincerity and melodrama, and explores weaving layers and rhythms, rich colours, playfulness and curious listening.
The band has performed in numerous venues and festivals in Hamburg and North Germany including ELBJAZZ 2024, JazzHall Summer Festival 2024, a JazzTied Television Production and performances with the Hamburger Kammerballett and acclaimed drummer Will Guthrie (FR/AUS). Warmbluetig released their debut album on vinyl in 2024, as part of a larger collaborative project between Sydney-based and Hamburg-based musicians, and a Live EP featuring Will Guthrie in 2025.

by Budd Kopman
ECM has always stretched the boundaries of jazz, and with its New Series champions much adventurous classical music, most newly composed. Trio Mediaeval's latest release, Folk Songs, an ethereal and haunting collection of Norwegian folk music, fits comfortably in neither. The Trio's three previous albums for ECM, Words of the Angel (2001), Soir, ...

by John Kelman
One of the most remarkable aspects of the Scandinavian music scene, no matter what the musical space, is how fluid it is, and how few borders exist--if any exist at all. Anything is possible. The three singers of Trio Mediaeval--Anna Maria Friman, Linn Andrea Fuglseth and Tornn Østrem Ossum--first emerged in the early part of the ...

Vasilic Nenad Balkan Band: Folk Songs

by AAJ Staff

Bassist Vasilic Nenad was born in 1975 in the South Serbian city of Nis (a region formerly part of Yugoslavia.) He studied classical doublebass, theory, ...
