Chris Hinze

Born: June 30, 1938

Chris Hinze was born in Hilversum, in the Netherlands. He began his musical studies on the piano at the age of 12. After working as a pianist all over Europe for several years, he returned to Holland and entered the Royal Conservatory in The Hague to study the flute. Around that time he met bass player Dick van der Capellen and together with Cees See/Martin van Duinhoven, they formed the 'Dick van der Capellen trio'. ('The Present is Past'). After getting his degree at the Royal Conservatory in 1969, Chris won a scholarship to the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston to study composition and arranging. Whilst at Berklee, he started to produce his unique Baroque/Jazz albums 'Telemann my Way', 'Vivat Vivaldi' etc. He also founded the 'Chris Hinze Combination'.

Roger Glenn

Born: June 11, 1945

Roger Glenn is ingredient X. The secret sauce. The cat behind the cat. He made his recording debut with legendary pianist/composer Mary Lou Williams and contributed to classic albums with Cuban percussion maestro Mongo Santamaria (Mongo´70, Atlantic Records), pioneering funk/jazz trumpeter Donald Byrd (Black Byrd, Blue Note Records), and Latin jazz star Cal Tjader (Grammy Award-winning La Onda Va Bien, Concord Picante Label). 

Robert Dick

Born: January 4, 1950

Robert Dick was born and raised in New York City. He began playing the flute as a child, having heard it (well, the piccolo actually) on the radio in the Top 40 hit Rockin’ Robin. HIs parent’s responded to his incessant campaigning for a flute by surprising him with a flute and flute teacher after school in fourth grade. Robert gave his first concert that very day! Setting up chairs for his parents as soon as his father came home from work, he excitedly playing page 1 of the Rubank Elementary Flute Method — and he’s never looked back. Robert’s main flute teachers were Henry Zlotnik, James Pappoutsakis, Julius Baker and Thomas Nyfenger

Henry Cook

Henry Cook is a multi-reed player, whose instruments include alto and baritone saxophones, flute, alto and bass flutes, and a variety of folk woodwinds. His passion for many styles of music, including blues, funk, latin as well as African and Arabic musical forms have given him a very eclectic and personal approach to playing. After studying with Joe Viola at the Berklee college of music in the early eighties, he began his career in Boston playing with the Billy Skinner Double Jazz Quartet. The band worked together for almost ten years, performing regularly at the legendary Wally's Cafe, and playing festivals throughout the Northeast, as well as England and Northern Ireland

Wayman Carver

Born: December 25, 1905

Wayman Carver - flute (1905 - 1967) Wayman Alexander Carver was born December 25, 1905 in Portsmouth, Virginia. At an early age, Carver showed not only an interest in but talent for music. Both his father and uncle were accomplished musicians who played in the Metropolitan Marching Band of Portsmouth, Virginia. The band was a combined jazz and marching band composed largely of “ear musicians”. Carver’s uncle, Derrick Copeland, had some musical training and was the leader of the band as well as the town’s music teacher. Copeland gave Carver his first instrument and directed his music training

Ali Ryerson

Ali Ryerson has emerged as one of the most exciting and versatile flutists on the scene today. She has performed with such diverse talents as Dr. Billy Taylor, Kenny Barron, Stephane Grappelli, Frank Wess, Red Rodney, Laurindo Almeida, Art Farmer, Maxine Sullivan, Roy Haynes, Julius Baker, and (as principal flutist with the Monterey Bay Symphony) with Luciano Pavarotti. Ali has toured the USA, Canada, Europe, Japan and Africa, and has performed in many major jazz festivals, including the famed Monterey Jazz Festival, the JVC in New York, Guinness Festival in Scotland, Edinburgh Festival in Scotland, and Carnegie Hall. Ali has released over a dozen jazz albums, the first four on European labels

Ninon Valder

Born: November 17, 1976

FLUTE / BANDONEON After studying classical music and sound engineering in France, Ninon discovered Afro jazz funk while playing with Rido Bayonne Big Band (inc. Paco Sery and Etienne MBappe) and decided to change life to become a jazz player. She first approached improvisation while playing folk music in the South of France and studied the HURDY- GURDY 89/94. Later on she encountered African music in Paris and improvised with Senegalese singer Cherif MBaw 97/99. Being very excited by the energy of anglo-saxon jazz players she moved to England to complete a master in Jazz Performance at Leeds College of Music (2002/04). Meanwhile she encountered theatre (placement at West Yorkshire Playhouse 2003/04) and started to perform as a stage musician, as well as an actress

Gerald Beckett

Born: May 2

Gerald, born in Beaumont, Texas, started playing alto saxophone at the age of 11. As a freshman at the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas he switched to playing the flute. During his years as an undergraduate at UNT he played with various local bands. Mindful of how unpredictable making a living as a musician could be, he studied business and received his BBA in Administrative Management. It wasn't until moving to San Francisco in 1985 that he began immersing himself in the jazz scene. He started listening to various flutists, from Eric Dolphy, Frank Wess, Herbie Mann, Hubert Laws, to Dave Valentin, Paul Horn, and others

Nika Rejto

Born: May 28, 1951

Nika Rejto, acclaimed as one of the nation's finest jazz flutists, has graced the stage and stunned audiences with her "rich tone and technique that never descends into gimmickry" for the last 30 years (Leonard Feather). As a soloist, she has performed with many jazz greats, including Red Holloway, Hubert Laws, Lanny Morgan, Frank Wess, Jeremy Steig, Freddie Hubbard, Chick Corea, Benny Carter, Airto and Flora Purim, George Cables, Billy Higgins, Buddy Collette, and Horace Silver, to name a few. Downbeat Magazine wrote "... her solo brought the house down!" [referring to her guest appearance with Hubert Laws at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, Los Angeles.] Besides leading her own jazz band as both flutist and vocalist, she also performs with various orchestras and ensemble groups. Nika Rejto released her first album, Naked Emotions, on her own label, Unika Records, showcasing her multi- faceted talents as composer, arranger, and producer
