Erin Bentlage

Born:

Hailing from the green mountains of Vermont, Erin Bentlage writes, sings, and plays music with an unquenchable thirst for organic sound. Raised in a small town near the city of Burlington, she developed her love for emotional musical expression through ballet and classical piano lessons, and in high school found herself involved in any musical activity possible, from performing as a singer and pianist to directing the school’s first a cappella group. It says a lot for the current state of the music that some of the most interesting music hitting the market is being made by lesser-known artists who might never get a look from major labels. Here are four that have their own particular—and very different—charms. All are worth a spin for the sheer joy of ...

How Moonchild Put The Jazz Into Soul

Read "How Moonchild Put The Jazz Into Soul" reviewed by Peter Jones

Last summer, an online-only big band called The Sages of Future Soul recorded their arrangement of Moonchild's “The List," featuring reeds wunderkind Alexa Tarantino.
