Electric Squeezebox Orchestra: The Falling Dream
by Jack Bowers
No, the San Francisco-based Electric Squeezebox Orchestra does not come with accordions attached. It does, however, come with a well-developed eye for harmony and rhythm, an inflexible group dynamic and a number of perceptive soloists, all of which serve to make the ensemble's second album, The Falling Dream, a pleasure to hear. The ...
Jeff Denson Quartet: Concentric Circles
by Neri Pollastri

Jeff Denson Quartet: Concentric Circles
by Jerome Wilson
The immediate standout feature of Jeff Denson's group is that he uses a bassoon as the reed instrument. That gives an interesting twist to the quartet's sound. Denson's compositions are a free-ranging mix of fast-paced progressive jazz and pretty ballads. The nimble, woody tone of Paul Hanson's bassoon gives an intellectual feel to the ...

Jeff Denson Trio: Jeff Denson Trio + Lee Konitz
by Dan Bilawsky
Part of the beauty and challenge in following the late career recordings of saxophone icon Lee Konitz can be traced to the way he continues to grow and evolve, inspired by the many and varied musicians he works with and, in turn, inspiring them. Anybody who's heard him wildly deconstruct a standard with pianist Dan Tepfer, ...
Guitarist Dave Haskell Releases Debut Album, "Pivot Point", Feat. Robben Ford, Russell Ferrante, Jimmy Haslip
The history of jazz is strewn with brilliant players who have inexplicably eluded widespread recognition, flying under the radar of labels, journalists, and fans. But guitarist Dave Haskell’s stealth status over the past two decades isn’t hard to explain. He’s spent most of that time on the move as a commercial pilot, fulfilling a dream that ...

So it was, when jazz vocalist, ...
