Dan Moretti & Piccola Orchestra La Viola: The Journey
by AAJ Italy Staff
The State of The Saxophone Trio: Dan Moretti, Domenic Landolf, Jacob Duncan
by C. Michael Bailey
There is something Baroque about jazz ensembles lacking a piano or guitar as a harmony instrument . Their absence frees previously occupied sonic space for other uses. The format also sets up a more pronounced contrapuntal interplay between the remaining players. The saxophone trio has become quite mainstream since Sonny Rollins blew into the Village Vanguard ...

Since then, this framework has gained steam with modern jazz reedmen, sometimes leading to mixed results. Yet Marty Ballou's corpulent and limber ...

Dan Moretti and Once Through: Passing Place
by Dan McClenaghan
When I first heard saxophonist/bandleader Dan Moretti's Once Through, I loved the sound and proclaimed it “a wonderful debut." Moretti promptly wrote me (isn't email a great thing) to say that the release was his ninth as a leader. He was polite but insistent that I fix the published review. I complied, explaining that the sound ...
