Brussels Jazz Orchestra

It might be unexpected but the Brussels Jazz orchestra (BJO) is not the kind of jazz orchestra that stick to standards. We prefer to achieve the highest level by composing original music, creating unique arrangements and playing inventively as well as passionately. In fact, it really is jazz with a dynamic orchestral sound, with a classic strength in which each musician is also a brilliant soloist. Call it an ‘orchestrated passion for jazz’ that incites BJO to create world-class music. Who comes to play with BJO depends on the project. In addition to BJO’s own productions, we work with well known musicians from all over the world

Brussels Jazz Orchestra With Camille Bertault: Gainsbourg

Read "Gainsbourg" reviewed by Angelo Leonardi

Gent Jazz Festival Gent, Belgium July 9-15, 2023 It looked dire in 2022. The Gent Jazz festival, a two-decade integral element in the cultural life of this wondrous Belgian city, was declared bankrupt, along with Jazz Middelheim in Antwerp, which had an even more august history. Amazingly, it's still here ...

Alan Ferber: Enneadic Endeavors

Read "Alan Ferber: Enneadic Endeavors" reviewed by Dan Bilawsky

When Alan Ferber was first finding his way as a Californian-turned-New Yorker near the dawn of the new millennium, he didn't know many people on his adopted scene. So logically, he used composing--for nonet, among other configurations--as a means for networking and fostering connections. “I don't like cold calling people; I just like to put projects ...

Joachim Kuhn, Day & Taxi & Java Quartet

Read "Joachim Kuhn, Day & Taxi & Java Quartet" reviewed by Maurice Hogue

German pianist/alto player Joachim Kuhn arrived in Paris in the late '60s; that city was the epicenter of an explosion in free jazz, fueled by several musicians from America (many of them from the AACM) and a desire among European players to push their music forward. One concert that Kuhn played at in the fall of ...
