A delightful and spirited singer who loves to perform, Eileen puts on shows that are heartfelt, soulful, swinging and full of honest feelings. “My concerts are really storytelling with music. I like a variety of music so I perform jazz, blues, funk and sometimes folk or rock. The words that I sing must contain truth about the human condition. Mike Felten

He’s been accused of trafficking in “Outsider Americana.” Perhaps a better handle for Mike Felten’s highly distinctive musical approach would be “Chicagoana.” The Windy City is deeply and inexorably ingrained in the veteran singer-songwriter’s mesmerizing musical odes, right down to the names of streets that he’s wandered down and the shady characters haunting them in decades past. Mike knows where all the bones are buried and he’s not shy about letting us in on the secrets, blending folk, blues, and rock influences to spread the news. Even in the middle of a pandemic, Mike’s muse hasn’t deserted him, although Fast Mikey Blue Eyes, his sixth studio CD for his own Landfill label (2017’s roots album of the year, 'Diamonds and Televisions,' was his previous release), was nearly completed when the virus hit

Uffe Steen

Born:

Danish guitar-virtuoso and local hero, Uffe Steen, is slowly but surely making his presence felt on the internet with his absolutely breathtaking chops and imaginative playing. As a lefty, growing up with only a right hand guitar around, Steen wasted no time – he just flipped it and got busy playing upside down. By the time he learned that the strings were supposed to go the other way, he was already neck-deep in developing his own style. This pragmatic approach to the instrument might be part of what makes his playing so unique. As a young man, Steen actually studied the clarinet, not the guitar, at the Royal Academy of Music in Denmark. Luckily for us, he chose to devote his attention to the guitar after finishing his studies

Five Guitarists With the Blues

Five Guitarists With the Blues

I wasn't happy about being there, but it was better than dealing with overcrowded classrooms in the city and muggings in school stairways. Craving the city at 15, I started taking the train into New York to spend hours at ...
