LuLu's Ascent
Lulu’s Ascent Jazz Flavored Jam Band Delights Live Music Fans Original sounding music is in short supply these days, so it’s little wonder that Lulu’s Ascent is making a name for itself in the Hudson Valley and NYC area. Crossing the lines between pop, jazz, rock and jam band while maintaining a consistent style is quite a feat; yet, they cannot be labeled “eclectic” because they always sound like themselves---often boldly going where no band has gone before. And they actually write great, singable, memorable songs with interesting changes, textures, and dynamics. Only together a few months, audience response to Lulu’s Ascent’s performances has been wildly enthusiastic. It all started when singer/songwriter LuAnn Arena performed at the Woodstock Guitar Festival in 2004 with drummer Steve Olenski

Cold Reading Trio
Cold Reading Trio explores the territory between original and imitation in a constantly evolving musical dialog. They construct electro-acoustic environments featuring two-way interactions between live instruments and processed samples of these instruments created in real-time. The result is a texture encompassing the complete spectral range between the extremes of acoustic and electric sound. Every time Cold Reading Trio performs the experience is completely different. The group’s variety of instruments creates a shifting palette of sound, which is then augmented and multiplied by live layered sampling

Ancient Future
Active since:
World Fusion Music Ancient Future is the first and longest running musical organization dedicated exclusively to the mission of creating world fusion music. The term was coined by bandleader Matthew Montfort in 1978 to describe Ancient Future’s unusual blend of musical traditions from around the world. BILLBOARD calls the group “trendsetters” for their early contributions to the movement, which seeks to show how people from different cultures can grow by learning from each other. World fusion is more of a process than a genre. It is a process by which new traditions are created, and has been going on throughout history

The Mahavishnu Project
Back in 1971, when guitar-god John McLaughlin left Miles Davis and (Tony William’s Lifetime) to form the groundbreaking Mahavishnu Orchestra, he was the first to combine the fire of Hendrix-drenched rock with the groove of Coltrane’s modal jazz & the ethereal Indian ragas of Ravi Shankar. The critics called it “jazz rock” (of course it was much more) and the result was nothing less than a musical revolution. The Mahavishnu Orchestra has since been cited as a major influence on everyone from King Crimson to Phish, and was in many ways one of the first electric jam bands. Not surprisingly however, the music of the Mahavishnu Orchestra hasn’t gone on to be covered and re-interpreted by the many bands it has affected, largely due to its extreme technical demands

Industrial Jazz Group
A Brief History of the Industrial Jazz Group Formed by composer / pianist Andrew Durkin in the spring of 2000, the Industrial Jazz Group has frequently been accused of confounding innocent listeners. And no wonder: in addition to its perplexing name (the group could never be confused with, say, Nine Inch Nails), the IJG seems to change shape?"aesthetically and physically?"every year or so. Sure the music is always fun (and it should here be noted that many of the group
