El Movimiento

El Movimiento, or "ElMo" - as the band is affectionately referred to by its hometown fans in Nashville - has quickly become a sensation in the city’s jazz scene, boasting an all-star collection of Music City's finest jazz and world-music performers. The band's powerful and original sound and repertoire are the result of a unique multi-cultural partnership between a trio of accomplished musicians - saxophonist and native Nashvillian Rahsaan Barber, Dominican percussionist Giovanni Rodriguez, and Puerto-Rican trumpeter Imer Santiago. Since its humble beginning as a weekly gathering of creative young musicians assembling at a coffee house to play music beyond boundaries and categories, El Movimiento has been committed to two inspiring missions - first, to build on the heritage passed on by Latin jazz giants such as Tito Puente and Eddie Palmieri, and second, though equally important, to incorporate the contemporary influences of modern jazz, rock and other popular American styles into the sound of the seven-piece band

3ology
3ology is a Colorado-based trio exploring the possibilities of improvisation and groove in an angular and fresh way. Together, saxophonist Doug Carmichael (Mojomama, C Spot Groove), acoustic and electric bassist Tim Carmichael (C Spot Groove, Ryan Elwood Trio) and drummer Jon Powers (Matt Morris, Sanskrit) produce a paradoxical sound that is both avant-garde and melodic, edgy and spacious. Members of the group draw on influences as diverse as Michael Brecker, Rush, Yellowjackets, Miles Davis, Living Colour, U2, John Coltrane, and Me'shell Ndegeocello. 3ology has recently collaborated with acclaimed cornetist Ron Miles for their latest release on Tapestry Records

North Mississippi Allstars

Active since:
A forgotten roll of film inspired a musical accompaniment, the North Mississippi Allstars’ new record Up and Rolling. Shot before the turn of the century, the photographs resonate with the music of four families from the Mississippi hills. The album captures the communal spirit upon which the band was founded. In 1996, a photographer from Texas, Wyatt McSpadden, traveled to North Mississippi looking to photograph local musicians. Brothers Luther and Cody Dickinson had grown up just south of Memphis and cut their teeth playing experimental rock & roll together, as well as the roots repertoire pioneered by their father, Jim Dickinson, a legendary producer (Big Star, the Replacements) and session player (Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan)
