Joe Clark Big Band

Joe Clark is an active composer and arranger of music in a wide variety of styles and idioms. Working with Dr. Cliff Colnot, Clark is an arranger for The Institute for Learning, Access and Training at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, writing for the Once Upon a Symphony and Orchestra Explorers programs. Joe's music has been performed by Yo-Yo Ma, Renée Fleming, Phil Woods, Ira Sullivan, Jim McNeely, the Chicago Sinfonietta, Bob Lark and his Alumni Big Band, the Tom Matta Big Band, Mulligan Mosaics Nonet, DePaul University Jazz Ensemble, University of Cincinnati CCM Jazz Lab Band, Chicago Q Ensemble, thingNY, Julia Bentley and the Spektral Quartet, and players from the Grant Park Symphony and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra

O Som Do Jazz

Based in St. Petersburg, Florida, this sextet features Rio de Janeiro singer Andrea Moraes Manson and a crew of experienced Latin jazz musicians performing samba-jazz, Bossa Nova, Balanço, Baião and MPB. O Som Do Jazz (the sound of jazz in Portuguese) recaptures the grace, energy and spirit of 1960s Brazilian music.

Trained as an architect, O Som Do Jazz singer Andrea Moraes Manson moved to the Tampa Bay area from Rio de Janeiro, she began performing with her jazz musician husband, David Manson. Andrea has a natural understanding of this wonderful music and sings from the heart, like only a Brazilian can, in Portuguese and English

Distract Vibes

Active since: March 21, 1989

In the midst of the 1980′s a bunch of young hippies gather together in a small container on an industrial site. at the south part of Rotterdam, Holland, generating an immense untuned cacaphonia of sound & chaos. From it emerged the hippie freak rock trio “Mistic dawn”, with Wally Dijksman a.k.a Day-T(’62) on guit and vocals, Moniek de Boer a.k.a Mo (’65) on bass, and Peter J. Faber (’62) on drums. Their first demo tape brings a small cult status. Early nineties, Peter Faber leaves the trio. The name changes into Distract vibes and Ron Verbeek (’57) is added as new impuls. Powerhitter Ron’s impact on the musical structures leads to extreme hard-core & noise patterns

Get The Blessing

Bassist Jim Barr once remarked that Get The Blessing were “total outsiders” and “the punk entry” when they won the 2008 BBC Jazz Award for Best Album with ‘All Is Yes’. Almost ten years later and five albums down the line, the same could still be said to hold true, albeit with a little more wisdom at their disposal. Formed in 1999 to share a fascination with the improvisation and monophonic nature of Ornette Coleman’s earlier works, the line-up has remained the same with Portishead rhythm masters Jim Barr and Clive Deamer on bass and drums respectively, Pete Judge on trumpet and Jake McMurchie on saxophone

Los Mas Valientes

Formed in 1995 by Jessica Valiente, Anna Milat-Meyer and Yasuyo Kimura, Los Más Valientes brings together some of today’s finest Latin musicians. Collectively, the band’s resume reads like a who’s-who of New York’s jazz and Latin music scene. Its members have played with Chico O’Farrill, Louis Bauzó, Charlie Persip, Max Roach, Orlando Marín, The Nelson Riddle Orchestra, Jimmy Bosch, Grammy-nominated Juan Carlos Formell...and the list goes on. Taking its name from its leader, Brooklyn- born flutist Jessica Valiente, Los Más Valientes plays original Latin jazz compositions as well as innovative arrangements of Latin jazz standards

VEIN

There certainly is no special need any more to mention the fact that today most jazz piano trios are deeply attached to musical interplay (even though this fact is worth to never be taken for granted!). And yet, even with the most subtle, most distinguished form of interplay there is always one in the trio who plays the part of the primus inter pares – the pianist, of course (usually and by definition leader of the group). That's exactly where pianist Michael Arbenz, drummer Florian Arbenz and bassist Thomas Lähns come up with their own idea of musical interplay. In fact, what they aim to achieve with their music - their understanding of music - is nothing less than the greatest possible balance of their three voices - starting with the way they work out their own compositions and arrangements, and going right through to the soloistic parts, fully assigned to all three of them. The result is a stupendous musical togetherness, packed with surprising melodic, rhythmic and dynamic turns, played with highest precision even in the most complex, distorted and twisted passages of their compositions, arrangements and solos.

The Honeypots

From New Orleans comes a unique blend of acoustic guitar, cello, percussion and killer harmonies that make up this talented female ensemble. The Honeypots blend the strong vocals, lyrical sensibilities, and thoughtful musicality of Lynn Drury, Margie Perez, and Monica McIntyre. These three songwriters, talented musicians in their own right, have come together; creating unique spins on their original compositions as well as beloved covers.
