VOODOO DRUMMER

Born: February 28, 1970

>The Afro-Dionysian VOODOO DRUMMER duo    

Weird Cello and Balafon melodies on top of original odd rhythms and African percussion, inspired by the Greek Drama, especially by Dionysus!

For more than 30 years he has appeared at festivals, theaters and venues all over the world, such as the Rouge Cabaret Festival (Paris), Villa Celimontana Jazz Fest (Rome), Odeon of Herodes Atticus (Athens), Secret Garden Fest (U.K.), and the Doha Jazz Festival (Qatar) - his own highlights, though, are gigs in New Orleans and jamming at a funeral in Benin, West Africa!

He had performed and recorded with the cult British trio The Tiger Lillies, New Orleans singer Meschyia Lake, Greek singer-songwriter Dionysis Savvopoulos, the great American Jazz saxophonist Alex Foster (Miles Davis, Charles Mingus), the Balafon master Mamadou Diabate (Burkina Faso), Blaine L. Reininger from Tuxedomoon (U.S.), Marc Collin from Nouvelle Vague (FR) and Xavi Turull from Ojos de Brujo (SP).

José Canha

Born: October 26, 1974

José Canha was born in Setúbal, Portugal and began his musical journey as a lead vocalist for various alternative-rock bands during his late teens. He explored a range of musical instruments during this period, developing a strong affinity for those in the lowest register. Working with a diverse range of talented musicians, he gained an eclectic musical background, which ignited a growing passion for blues and jazz music.

After completing his army service, Canha abandoned his earlier academic intentions to dedicate himself to an in-depth study of his newfound passions: the bass and Black American music

Born: 1971

Hailing from Boston, Massachusetts, these guys have been getting together to perform and record for over 30 years. Vaults of material exists. Each musician has had their own success both on local and international stages. Getting together for these recordings have provided each an amazing opportunity to explore, express, and create. The music is explosive, crossing many boundaries in Jazz and maintains an unwavering dedication to creative integrity. There is a heavy influence of Classical, World, and Rock music apparent in the compositions, written predominantly by bassist Russell Fortunato

Piero Bittolo Bon

Piero Bittolo Bon is one of the busiest and most in demand italian musicians in the italian jazz and avant-garde scene. He mainly plays alto saxophone but is also at ease on baritone saxophone, flutes and clarinets. Piero has also had a long-standing affair going on with the electric bass, which he played at the beginning of his musical journey in funk, reggae, and rock bands, before committing himself to wind instruments and improvised music. Passionate and vibrant, his music, densely composed or totally improvised, reverberates with echoes of the best of free jazz, fire music, torrid improvisations and chamberesque compositions, sharp attacks and continuous inventions bar after bar

Bret Sexton

Born: June 16, 1974

Leader of Trio Fungus, Sanskrit, Bret Sexton ad hoc and Bret Sexton Trio. Played with Uversa, Cornbread, Filty Mcnasty, Phantasmorgasm, East Colfax All-stars, Dave Cieri and Friends, Sons of Armaggedon, Corruptor, Nightshark, Almira Gulch, and LOG.

Currently member of SeFa LoCo and recent collaborations with Hugh Ragin, Vinnie Golia, Sam Newsome and Walter Thompson.

Jeff Lopez

born and raised in New York City, He has been playing bass for over 45 years and is an accomplished composer and arranger. 

Jeff is also an accomplished bandleader, composer, and arranger. This is evident on his first two CD releases, Sun And The Rain 1998 and Jeff Lopez-Jazz Composer, as well as numerous Jazz Ambassador recordings. Jeff’s compositions have appeared in various film and network TV productions.

Jeff’s professional career has included performing and touring that have taken him around the globe, including a 20-year tenure as the bass player of the U.S. Army Jazz Ambassadors, He has toured in 35 countries and all of 50 states in the USA. Some performance highlights were his two orchestral appearances at New York City’s legendary Carnegie Hall.

Julie Joslyn

JULIE JOSLYN (Alto saxophone, live electronics, violin, vocals) is a native New Yorker. She is the co-founder of the avantjazz duo, ICONOCLAST. Joslyn has played with the Indian-influenced rock quintet Church of Betty, and can be heard on MacLean and Ponomarenko's album "Music Without Computers" and as guest screamer on Doctor Nerve's "Skin." Joslyn studied for a number of years with soprano saxophonist and composer Jane Ira Bloom. In addition, she is a practicing psychoanalyst and painter.

Nicolas Ojeda

Born: November 19, 1975

Born in Córdoba Argentina in 1975, he began his studies of music in 1989. Since 1994 he live in Buenos Aires working actively in several type of projects from funk to avant garde.
