He came into contact with music at the age of 10, when he met the guitarist-composer Kostas Eliades with whom he started and completed his studies in classical guitar. With years of apprenticeship by the internationally acclaimed composer / guitarist / improviser Andreas Georgiou, he was taught jazz guitar, jazz harmony, advanced music theory, improvisation, analysis of musical forms and structures, composition approaches etc. During his apprenticeship, he received a wide range of knowledge, stimulation and guidance as to the aesthetics and philosophy of music. Vassilis Podaras (aka Billy Pod) was born in Athens,Greece in 1988. He started playing drums at the age of 11. His musical studies include 6 years of classical piano and violin lessons. At the age of 18 he was accepted at the jazz department of the Ionian university of Corfu and 5 years later he got his Bachelor degree and later his Masters degree in jazz performance. Music Soup is a mainstay on the Greek jazz scene where they perform in all types of venues, from festivals and concert halls to jazz clubs, bars, and cafes. Evgenia and Nestor first met in 1998 when Nestor hired Evgenia to sing for a performance with his band. They continued playing together on and off for many years before they decided to form MUSIC SOUP in 2006.

According to Evgenia, “We came up with our group name because we wanted to play different jazz-oriented styles in different group settings. We wanted a name that was a bit light-hearted, because we’re serious about our music but we prefer to not take ourselves very seriously.”

Yiorgos Kostopoulos

Bassist Yiorgos(also known as George) Kostopoulos is a cross-cultural musician with a Masters Degree in Jazz Performance from Aaron Copland School of Music whose proficiency in many different musical styles has led him to numerous collaborations with exceptional musicians from all over the world. Born and raised in Athens, Greece, Georgios studied in depth the full spectrum of classical, jazz,pop and Greek folk music while at the same time he explored a variety of musical styles from all over the world, enriching his music vocabulary and broadening his artistic perception. He attended the specified in Music, experimental high school of Pallini, Athens where he had the chance to study in depth classical music and byzantine/folk music. After graduating from High School he studied Double Bass in Phillipos Nakas Conservatory in Athens, where he received his degree in Jazz Performance in 2011. Yiorgos has also studied Architecture at the National Technical University of Athens. In 2009 he travels to Sofia ,Bulgaria to participate in the Jazz improvisation workshop under the direction of jazz pianist/composer Milcho Leviev . He received twice a scholarship from Berklee College of Music in Boston,MA in 2009 and 2010. In 2010 he received a performance scholarship from the Phillipos Nakas Conservatory in Athens. In 2011 after graduating from Phillipos Nakas Conservatory he continues his studies in New York City, after being accepted at the Queens College Masters Programs where he studied Jazz Performance with private teachers Lonnie Plaxico and Joe Martin, in New York. He has shared the stage with a wide range of performers, in the US and Europe
