The duo Kwella & Stowell invites the listener into a personal and intimate space.
The two acclaimed jazz guitarists, John Stowell (US) and Jens Christian Kwella (DK), will release the album The Room on May 29 — a musical meeting between two guitarists from different continents.

Since 2009, the two have performed regularly in Denmark, and over time they have developed a shared language and musical universe on stage — their own “room.”

After completing their tour in the fall of 2025, they spent a single day at The Hideout Studio in Aalborg recording nine tracks without overdubs or corrections, which are now being released.
The music and the process should be seen as a contrast to a music industry where everything can be edited and perfected with AI and other tools — at the risk of losing spontaneity and the sense that the music is created in the moment.

Gorm Askjær

Born: October 5, 1980

Gorm Askjær is a guitarist and composer living in Aarhus, Denmark. He has a background in jazz and improvised music, but is currently working with both classically trained as well as improvising musicians, trying not to get to much caught up in speculations about genres.

His music is adventourous and creates many different soundworlds, while maintaining a personal focus and tone. Compositions are written both for his own bands or individual projects, as well as comissions from others.

Current bands include Gorm Askjær Trio and Gorm Askjær Secret Safari.

Besides his own music Gorm is also teaching and is involved in different kinds of cultural and artistic projects, arranging concerts etc.

Nikola Bankov

Born: October, 1998

Award-winning alto saxophonist Nikola Bankov, described as “Bright young cat with fresh grooves“ – (ALL ABOUT JAZZ) is only 21 years old and he‘s truly pushing the boundaries of his instrument. Nikola originates from Slovakia and is currently studying at The Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus, Denmark. His critically acclaimed debut album ‘Bright Future’ emerges as Nikola’s definitive statement, merging inspiring and catchy melodies with a refreshingly original sound. The album features world-renowned tenor saxophonist Seamus Blake (USA) and has 2 nominations for The Best Jazz Album Of The Year in Slovakia

Hvalfugl

When Danish trio Hvalfugl takes the stage they weave together a distinct expression combining strong melodies, sonic ambience and a powerful musical presence. Acclaimed with the Danish Music Award Jazz “Live Act Of The Year” 2025. 

The trio has impressed audiences and critics alike with their compelling instrumental music since they released their debut album By in 2017. Jens Fisker

Born: March 31, 1983

Jens Fiskers music is experimenting with the mix between modern jazz sounds and his nordic roots. He has been gathering musical experiences in both Berlin, New York, Australia and many other places. Now lives next to the North Sea in Northern Denmark

Røgsignal

Røgsignal is one of the first bands mentioned when Danish jazz radio talks about the new sound of jazz from Denmark. The station even chose ‘Bodies’ (2019) as ‘Album Of The Week’, highlighting the colourful, pulsating stream of indie beats and shimmering soundscapes. Though the band is based in Aarhus, the roaring bass lines and ethereal melodies of electric guitars and fender rhodes are deeply rooted in the understated melancholy of rural Denmark. The biggest, Danish jazz blog, Jazznyt, has called Røgsignal “living proof that the young jazz scene in Denmark is thriving” and Politiken, the biggest newspaper in Denmark, thinks that the band is “both master musicians and magnificently meditative in their expression“. Røgsignal has released two EP’s and two well-reviewed full length albums
