MUSICIAN Born:

Gorm Askjær

Gorm Askjær is a guitarist and composer living in Aarhus, Denmark. He has a background in jazz and improvised music, but is currently working with both classically trained as well as improvising musicians, trying not to get to much caught up in speculations about genres. His music is adventourous and creates many different soundworlds, while maintaining a personal focus and tone. Compositions are written both for his own bands or individual projects, as well as comissions from others. Current bands include Gorm Askjær Trio and Gorm Askjær Secret Safari. Besides his own music Gorm is also teaching and is involved in different kinds of cultural and artistic projects, arranging concerts etc.

Nikola Bankov

Award-winning alto saxophonist Nikola Bankov, described as “Bright young cat with fresh grooves“ – (ALL ABOUT JAZZ) is only 21 years old and he‘s truly pushing the boundaries of his instrument. Nikola originates from Slovakia and is currently studying at The Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus, Denmark. His critically acclaimed debut album ‘Bright Future’ emerges as Nikola’s definitive statement, merging inspiring and catchy melodies with a refreshingly original sound. The album features world-renowned tenor saxophonist Seamus Blake (USA) and has 2 nominations for The Best Jazz Album Of The Year in Slovakia

Hvalfugl

Get swept off your feet as Hvalfugl invites you into their alluring universe where tales from the ancient music tradition of Scandinavia are united with the sound of the modern nordic tone. In the intersection between the lightly flowing and the great and heavy, we find the folk trio Hvalfugl - a band that have created a sound that is entirely their own, through beautiful melodies inspired by both the Danish and the Swedish folk music tradition. In this universe the sun can shine from a clear sky, and the rain can fall from a dark and grey November cloud. Hvalfugl’s original compositions are both beautiful and melancholic, and from the first note they create an intimate atmosphere in the space they inhabit with their music. Hvalfugls primary source of inspiration is the Danish and Swedish folk music traditions, in which the melodies were written with the purpose of being easy to play and sing along to

Jens Fisker

Jens Fiskers music is experimenting with the mix between modern jazz sounds and his nordic roots. He has been gathering musical experiences in both Berlin, New York, Australia and many other places. Now lives next to the North Sea in Northern Denmark

Røgsignal

Danish “Røgsignal” (Smoke Signal) have created their very own instrumental universe in a clash of pulsating indie beats and shimmering soundscapes. The songs are equally inspired by modern indie rock and a homesickness towards the deserted roads of rural Denmark. The biggest, Danish music magazine, GAFFA, describes how “there is both longing and melancholy to the overall impression and expression. Something dreamy and unexplainable. Beautiful and soothing.” The release of the bands debut album, “Pletter På Solen” (“Sun Spots”, 2016) resulted in great attention in the band's home country: Packed concerts at the largest, Danish jazz festivals and venues, raving reviews and steady rotation on Danish National Radio

Kristoffer Gori Verdoner

Kristoffer Gori Verdoner is a Danish guitarist and composer. He is easily recognisable by his sound, voicing, and ideas. His unselfish nature brings out the best in each musician, while his purposeful spaces in songs allows the music to blossom in a captivating manner. Kristoffer composes unique music, drawing on influences from his experiences with musicians from all over Europe, USA, Brazil, Cuba, Mali. Despite his young age, Kristoffer has established a good name for himself and has already one solo record on his shoulder. May 14th 2015 Kristoffer released his debut album, Frigga Feetless & Friends, which is a collaboration between musicians from Denmark, Estonia and USA

Sune Pors Andersen

Sune Pors (b. 1987 in Odense, Denmark) is a guitarist and composer, who has worked with numerous Danish and international bands and artists as a sideman, as well as performing his own music. Current projects include the eclectic guitar duo Thief On The Roof with estonian guitarist Kirsi Tilk, the world-music-meets-rock group Umpas, rock/fusion trio Randolph Cricket and the genre-bending jazz trio Myrtue/Pors/Rõivassepp. ​ In 2015, Sune Pors finished his master's degree in jazz/pop/rock guitar at the Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus, Denmark. There he had lessons with Uffe Steen, Karsten Aaholm, Adam Levy, Miso Petrovic, Tolis Zavaliaris, Henrik Andersen, Gilad Hekselman and many others

Blood, Sweat, Drum + Bass

Blood Sweat Drum + Bass consits of 27 musicians – three drums, two bass players, two synthesizers, one guitarist, one working laptop and electronics, 16 horns and two singers. The orchestra has been working with a wide variety of music including heavy metal, electronica, rock, pop, drum’n’bass, world music and – of couse – jazz. Their latest album “On the Road to Damascus” was released in 2012. This time the music was inspired by the composer’s travels in the Middle East and the notes for the orchestra were written in the Arabic quarter tone scales. Composer and conductor is Jens Christian “Chappe” Jensen

Jonas Kappel

Jonas Kappel is a Danish guitarist and composer born in 1982 and now based in Aarhus. He released his first album “Aurora” in 2009, which received much critical acclaim. Since then he has released several albums and EPs with different groups. Jonas Kappel plays his own brand of jazz-rock on his latest release QUARTET, which features Jonas Kappel on guitar, Jonas Andreasen on saxophone, Jens Mikkel Madsen on double bass and Daniel Sommer on drums.
