All About Jazz's Spotify Playlist FAQ

Everything you need to know about the All About Jazz Spotify playlist is right here! If you don't see your answer below, post it to the comments section and we'll get back to you straight away.

How will I know if my song gets picked?

We will notify you by email if your song is approved or denied. We will also notify you when it is added to the playlist if approved.

Can I submit more than one song?

We only accept one song per artist at a time so be sure to submit your best track. However, if you represent multiple artists (e.g. label or artist management), then you may submit more than one song as long as each song is from a separate artist.

How quickly will you process my submission?

That depends on the volume of submission we receive. We review tracks in the order we receive them so, If there are only a few tracks ahead of yours, then it may take only one to three days. However, if there’s hundreds of submissions ahead of yours, then it could be one to two weeks or more. Either way, we do our very best to review all submissions as soon as possible.

Can I submit my music if it’s on Spotify, but I don’t have a Spotify account?

Yes, if you can provide the URL song link. However, it would behoove you to sign up for an account since Spotify offers a free subscription level which will allow you to do so much more and make the submission process more convenient. This will also enable you to gain access to Spotify for Artists where you can manage your artist profile, see your audience stats, promote your music, and get a blue verification check mark once you claim your profile. Visit our Musician Toolkit page for more information.

What type of jazz do you include in the playlist?

We try to include a wide variety of jazz from mainstream/straight-ahead to modern, fusion, bop, vocal and beyond. There really isn’t a genre of jazz we’re not open to. That being said, we do encourage you to familiarize yourself with the playlist to get a sense of whether or not your song would be a good fit for us and our listeners.

How do you determine what songs appear on the playlist?

We want to present a variety of artists and types of jazz that our members and listeners will love. Though this is somewhat subjective, we do insist that submissions meet a certain standard of quality (e.g., composition/songwriting and arrangement) and professionalism (e.g., performance and sound recording quality). Which is why we have a musician and recording engineer overseeing the approval and curation process.

Do you offer paid placement on your playlist?

NO! You cannot pay to get on the AAJ playlist. That goes against Spotify’s guidelines and our’s too. Our members and listeners are our top priority—we want to playlist a variety of artists and types of jazz that our members will love. So, paid placement is not in our, or your, best interest and is frankly a practice akin to payola.

If approved, how long does my song stay active on the playlist?

That depends on several factors—the volume of submissions we receive and accept, how well a song performs on the playlist, and the total number of songs currently on the playlist. Short answer: it might be a month or more, or it might only be a week or two, it just depends.

How is the playlist promoted?

We currently promote our playlist on the AAJ website, our social media channels and our weekly newsletter.
