Cat Hope: Speechless

In un clima spettrale (in divenire da un pressoché totale silenzio iniziale) si sparge il caos controllato del brano d'apertura (appunto "Overture," sic) del nuovo album di Catherine Anne "Cat" Hope, compositrice di area squisitamente contemporanea, nativa di Perth, fresca sessantenne, con un passato anche in Italia (fine anni Ottanta) e attualmente di stanza a Melbourne. Il lavoro, inciso nel 2019, è suddiviso in cinque parti, per un totale di poco inferiore all'ora, in cui si avvicendano sezioni vocali affidate ai solisti, corali e strumentali, il tutto svolto sopra un tessuto connettivo scuro, ovattato, non particolarmente assertivo (ma non per questo esente da esplosioni anche molto perentorie, come accade per esempio in due successivi momenti di "Act 2," e non solo), carico, come si alludeva all'inizio, di foschi, densi presagi.

L'opera così composta (nella doppia accezione del termine: predisposta e messa insieme) non manca di un suo potere seduttivo, di un suo charme vagamente inquietante, con una cifra stilistica e un indirizzo piuttosto netti, come del resto adombrato nelle note di copertina dove si parla di "risposta alla difficile situazione dei rifugiati di tutto il mondo, ispirata al rapporto della commissione australiana per i diritti umani 'The Forgotten Children: National Inquiry into Children in Immigration Detention,' presentata al Parlamento australiano nel 2014." Tutto ciò che appare oggi ai nostri occhi sempre più lontano da una qualunque plausibile soluzione.
