Savina Yannatou & Primavera en Salonico: Songs of an Other

Savina Yannatou fa viaggiare la sua voce nel tempo e nello spazio. L'ascolti in Armenia sulle tracce di un amore finito ("Sareri hovin mernem"). Ma anche tra la Macedonia e la Bulgaria nella confessione ad una madre ("Za lioubih maimo tri momi") o nella sua Grecia dei racconti mitologici ("O Yannis kai o drago") o ancora nell'Italia rurale del Sud ("Addio amore").

Songs of an Other è stato registrato ad Atene nell'ottobre del 2007 ed è il terzo CD per la Ecm di Manfred Eicher che ha prodotto e missato il disco. Accompagnata dalla Primavera en Salonico (il sestetto che la segue fedelmente nelle sue escursioni vocali), Savina ci dà un saggio delle sue possibilità canore. Il suo è un cantato che sibila come l'acciaio percorso e estende la sua forza oltre le ottave e le possibilità umane.

Il CD si fa apprezzare per la sua carica evocativa ("Sareri hovin..."), ma anche per la sua portata sperimentale e di improvvisazione ("Perperouna," "Dunie-au," "Radile"). Le tessiture spingono i brani verso un tempo immemore (l'utilizzo del qanun, dell'oud, del nay), la voce di Savina è come un richiamo ancestrale che si perde nella notte dei tempi.

Jazz e tradizione, world e sperimentazione per un disco di stupori antichi e di agghiacciante bellezza.
