Kim Nazarian: Some Morning
Track review of "Robin’s Nest/Bonology"Nazarian opens the release with a medley of Illinois Jacquet's "Robbin's Nest" coupled with JJ Johnson's "Boneology." The piece swings with a Big Band momentum that is gentle but assertive. Nazarian's delivery is relaxed and piquant. Ashby turns in a Tommy Dorsey solo following pianist Mark Soskin's solo stroll through the song's interior that is of a wartime vintage. Nazarian has matchless scat chops that enable her to bend the will of any song to her own. She makes it all look (and sound easy) on Some Morning.
