Ava Logan: So Many Stars

Un gradevole assolo di pianoforte apre "Day In Day Out" ed il disco di Ava Logan, una cantante non tra le piú giovani fra quelle che si affacciano sull´affollata scena del jazz vocale contemporaneo. La sua voce, la sua maestria nel cantare su brani conosciuti la rende subito degna di attenzione, così come il suo gruppo che, con un approccio swingante, dà alle esecuzioni un´impronta Made in USA senza alcuna ombra di dubbio.

Siamo dalle parti della tradizione, interiorizzata come forma espressiva, senza grandi variazioni in termini di arrangiamenti originali o di assoli ai limiti della tonalità. Tuttavia un paio di esecuzioni spiccano, come "Wild Is the Wind" o "Detour Ahead," in mezzo ad altre più convenzionali, più immediatamente riconoscibili.

Per i quattro musicisti della ritmica e la cantante il jazz sembra parte del patrimonio genetico e lo swing una cosa naturale, senza sguardi verso la cultura pop. Suonano credibili: ed in questo è la forza di un disco che si rivolge a chi ama la grande tradizione eseguita con una certa raffinatezza.
