Erasmo Petringa: Sabir
Lo strumento nordafricano, acquistato in Marocco da un maestro locale, viene da Petringa utilizzato perlopiù all'occidentale, sebbene all'interno di una musica meticcia, che contiene in sé elementi arabi ("Moresca in 5/4" potrebbe essere stata scritta da Rabih Abou-Kahlil), tradizione del sud Italia e improvvisazione jazzistica.
Se per l'eleganza e il fascino delle composizioni Petringa fa tutto da solo (i brani sono suoi, con l'aiuto in due pezzi del pianista Angelo Cioffi), per la bellezza dei suoni lo sostengono gli ottimi collaboratori (essenziali le percussioni di Enzo Zirilli e i tamburelli di Emidio Petringa), mentre per l'elemento jazzistico spiccano tre ospiti eccellenti come Pietro Tonolo, Gabriele Mirabassi e Bebo Ferra, che arricchiscono la scena con toccanti improvvisazioni sui bei temi di Petringa.
L'album si dipana come una raccolta di bei racconti, posti al confine tra world colta ed etno jazz, ed è un lavoro molto interessante perché fonde in maniera attenta e non banale mondi diversi della musica del mediterraneo, inclusa quella vena jazzistica nostrana che qui, dialogando con altre tradizioni, viene particolarmente valorizzata.
