Difficile non restare colpiti dal livello di tecnica strumentale e dagli arrangiamenti di quest'incisione di Dave Tofani, un sassofonista tenore che ha fatto da sideman a tanti grandi nomi della canzone americana e che qui in veste di leader dalla mano sicura.

Ci sono sia standards che originals, ed arrangiamenti di ottima fattura, come l'iniziale duo sax tenore - batteria su "Brushes on the Snare", o la ballad finale "Violets for Your Furs" di Matt Dennis. I momenti eccellenti sono veramente numerosi, pensiamo ai due interventi della chitarra di Kack Wilkins ed al leader, sicuro sugli accordi e con una voce molto moderna, fra Coltrane e Michael Brecker. I suoi sideman sono all'altezza, in grado di formare un gruppo compatto e non soltanto di accompagnare. Nelle loro mani il jazz più legato alla tradizione funziona benissimo e Tofani si rivela essere un musicista che ha delle qualità oltre il suo ruolo da protagonista negli studi di registrazione.
