All eyes have been focused on New Orleans since Hurricane Katrina belted the Big Easy a few years ago. In the St. Louis region, all ears will be tuned to the soulful sounds of multi-faceted musicians at the eighth annual Old Webster Jazz and Blues Festival Saturday, Sept. 20, from noon to 10 p.m.
Sponsored by the Webster-Kirkwood Times, KTRS (55 AM) Radio, KFUO (Classic 99 FM) Radio, Webster University and the Rockwood Senior Living Complex, this year's jazz and blues festival is a celebration of Louisiana heritage, especially as known in New Orleans.
The intimate format and accessible activities in Old Webster complement the world-class jazz and blues artists slated for appearance. The event ranks as one of the most memorable, family-friendly music festivals in the Midwest," said festival chairman Joe Rath.
Throughout the day, music, food, education and other entertainment will recreate the rich and raucous milieu that draws jazz/R&B diehards and others to the Crescent City itself.
On the music scene, 10 bands will serve up a spicy stew of eclectic ingredients: The Mosby Group (noon-2 p.m.), Pfeffer Trio with Debby Lennon (2-4 p.m.), Marquise Knox Blues Band (4-6 p.m.), Webster University Faculty Jazz Band (6-8 p.m.) and Gumbohead with special guest The Funky Butt Brass Band (8 -11 p.m.) will stir senses on the Gore Avenue Stage.
