Steve Holt Celebrates 40th Anniversary Digital Reissue Of Debut Album 'The Lion's Eyes'

Jazz fans and music enthusiasts alike are in for a treat as Steve Holt, JUNO-nominated musician and renowned jazz pianist, announces the digital reissue of his debut album, The Lion's Eyes, on December 22, exactly 40 years after its original vinyl release. Originally nominated for a JUNO award, “The Lion's Eyes" showcases Holt's talent on the piano and features a stellar lineup of musicians, including Bob Mover on alto saxophone, Charles Ellison on trumpet, Steve Hall on tenor saxophone, Michel Donato on bass, and Camil Bélisle on drums. Jazz Times hailed the album as “a well-crafted masterpiece played to the hilt by all concerned.” Remarking on the album Holt said, “Listening to the album after all this time, I notice how different I played back then. It’s adventurous and aggressive. And the guys played beautifully, with so much soul. The band really cooks!” This landmark reissue will be available for digital download beginning December 22 across multiple platforms, including Bandcamp, Amazon Music, and Apple Music, and others.

About Steve Holt

Steve Holt is a JUNO-nominated musician and one of Canada's top jazz pianists. He received McGill University's first-ever Bachelor of Music, majoring in Jazz performance in 1981, and studied piano in New York City with world-renowned pianist Kenny Barron. Steve released his debut album in 1983, which was nominated for a JUNO. Over the years, he has built an international reputation, performing with notable artists such as Archie Shepp, Larry Coryell, James Moody, to name a few. Steve has six CD albums and three singles to his credit, and he is set to release a new recording with his band Steve Holt Jazz Impact in April 2024.
