The new release from Poncho Sanchez, Psychedelic Blues, hits stores this week (CD & digital) via Concord Picante Records.
On his new release, Sanchez goes back to his Latin jazz roots honoring the tradition of Sanchez's earlier Concord recordings. The album opens with the simmering “Cantaloupe Island", a Herbie Hancock composition recast in a Latin jazz groove. The title track is a fast-moving mambo, originally written by Sonny Henry and arranged here by Francisco Torres.
