NEA Jazz in the Schools Website Launch and 2006 NEA Jazz Masters

Dana Gioia, Chairman, National Endowment for the Arts, and Wynton Marsalis, Artistic Director, Jazz at Lincoln Center, will join to make a double announcement:

• Launch of NEA Jazz in the Schools, a new web-based, multimedia curriculum, an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts produced by Jazz at Lincoln Center, and
• Names of the 2006 NEA Jazz Masters, winners of the nation’s highest honor in this distinctly American art.

Previously named NEA Jazz Masters Paquito D’Rivera and Jimmy Heath will perform with The Juilliard Jazz Ensemble.

WHY
NEA Jazz in the Schools provides teachers with an extraordinary new multimedia curriculum, exploring jazz both as an art form and as a means for understanding American history, from late 19th century New Orleans until now.

The 2006 NEA Jazz Masters—all of them a part of that history—are joining the roster of 80 other jazz greats who have found new and expanded opportunities to reach out to the public through the Arts Endowment’s programs.
