“Jazz Education -- For Students Only?" is the question New York's leading jazz educators -- including executive director Martin Mueller of New School Jazz, jazz coordinator David Demsey of William Patterson University, artistic director Victor Goines of the Juilliard School, Mark Micklethwaite of Manhattan School of Music, and pianist Kenny Werner, teaching at New York University -- take up with sceptical journalists David Adler (Jazz Times, AllAboutJazz-NY, Jazz Notes) and Howard Mandel (moderator) in the first Jazz Matters panel discussion of fall '06, co-produced by the Jazz Journalists Association and the New School Jazz program.

Is the unprecedented growth of jazz education, as reported in impressive editorial sections devoted to the topic in this month's DownBeat, Jazziz and JazzTimes magazines, a general news story?
