Episode One: A Quiet Revolution to screen at Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History

Wednesday June 15 @ 6:30 pm

Spread the word to your friends in Detroit. This FREE screening of the modern jazz documentary's first episode throws the spotlight on the emergence of new waves of artists and their relationships with their elders and mentors. Terence Blanchard, Herbie Hancock, Greg Osby, Jason Moran, Aaron Parks, Bill Frisell, Donald Harrison, Jr., Avishai Cohen, and others explore what jazz is becoming through both music and dialogue. The evening also includes a live jazz performance by the Sean Dobbins Quartet, and a panel discussion featuring film Editor and Detroit native Kristian Hill and Executive Producer John Comerford about the state of the art of jazz in the 21st century as it continues to expand far beyond traditional styles.

“We are excited to feature this screening and discussion of Icons Among Us and live jazz performance as part of our celebration of Black Music Month," says Juanita Moore, President & CEO of the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History. “As the world's largest museum of its kind, the Wright Museum is committed to the national celebration of Black Music Month. Jazz, America's classical music, continues to evolve, and this event promises to bear witness to its current incarnations while paying homage to its inimitable legacy."
