"A player of jaw-dropping technique and ferocious intensity with a darkly alluring musical vision, guitarist Bryan Baker is a leading light among a new breed of six-string renegades who are tearing it up with reckless abandon while pushing stylistic boundaries with impunity. His (debut record) Aphotic is the most startlingly original debut by a guitarist since Pat Metheny's Bright Size Life." -- Bill Milkowski, Jazz Times

Born into an immensely creative family, with his father being a professional guitarist, his mother being an artist, dancer, and promoter, and his grandfather being an accordionist, Bryan Baker was immersed in the creative way of life from birth. This lead to him to begin playing the guitar at the age of four, under the direction of his father.

After nine years of intense practice in both performance and composition, Bryan attended an annual summer camp held at the Los Angeles Music Academy, at the age of 13. Upon completion of the weeklong program, Bryan was offered a full-tuition scholarship to attend the academy, which he accepted. For the next two years Bryan attended the academy while being home-schooled and privately tutored.

After Bryan graduated the Los Angeles Music Academy, he spent the next two years teaching at the school, as well as performing with some of the legends of the Los Angeles music scene.

At age 16 Bryan auditioned for, and was awarded a full-tuition scholarship to the prestigious Berklee College of Music, in Boston, MA.

While at Berklee, Bryan studied performance and electronic music synthesis, was awarded the Billboard Magazine Endowed Scholarship, met the musicians that have been the nucleus of his various projects since, as well as taught upwards of sixteen of his fellow peers privately.

During Bryan's last year at Berklee, he recorded his debut record, entitled Aphotic, which has been called “The most startlingly original debut by a guitarist since Pat Metheney's Bright Size Life“ by Bill Milkowski of Jazz Times.

After graduating Berklee, Bryan was immediately hired as the new guitarist in legendary jazz-rock super group Steps Ahead, a position once held by guitarists Mike Stern and Wayne Krantz. Bryan has toured extensively throughout the world with Steps Ahead, visiting nearly every continent and country in the world performing to enthusiastic audiences.

Bryan is now in talks with both Island Records and William Morris for his band “Neutral Like The Son", for which he is the signer, songwriter, and producer.

Bryan is also on the verge of releasing the follow-up album to Aphotic, entitled This Morning Day, which features an engaging mix of electronic elements and modern improvisation. His second instrumental/improvisational release, This Morning Day will be released as a digital-only release on iTunes, eMusic, Amazon, and all other online music retailers. The decision was made to do a digital-only release mainly because of Baker's philosophical belief that the physical CD is an antiquated concept.
