Now in its eighth season, Comerica Java and Jazz provides a monthly after-work concert that showcases local talent at the Detroit Main Library. The entertainment is free and open to all.
Concerts start at 6 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month. This Tuesday, poet Ber-Henda Williams, 28, of Southfield will bring the word while Tumbao Bravo brings the music.
Tumbao Bravo is a five- to seven-piece Cuban jazz combo. Formed in August 2003 by conguero Alberto Nacif and reedman Paul VornHagen, Tumbao Bravo won a 2005 Detroit Music Award for Outstanding Jazz Recording for its debut release, Montuno Salad." Its most recent release is Un Systema Para Todo" (2008).
Next month's event on Aug. 19 will feature poet Drizzle Rainman with music by renowned trumpeter Marcus Belgrave.
