Detroit has got to be one of the jazziest cities in the nation, where you can stop by the public library after work for a great evening of jazz and spoken words.

Now in its eighth season, Comerica Java and Jazz provides a monthly after-work concert that showcases local talent at the Detroit Main Library. The entertainment is free and open to all.

Concerts start at 6 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month. This Tuesday, poet Ber-Henda Williams, 28, of Southfield will bring the word while Tumbao Bravo brings the music.

Tumbao Bravo is a five- to seven-piece Cuban jazz combo. Formed in August 2003 by conguero Alberto Nacif and reedman Paul VornHagen, Tumbao Bravo won a 2005 Detroit Music Award for Outstanding Jazz Recording for its debut release, “Montuno Salad." Its most recent release is “Un Systema Para Todo" (2008).

Next month's event on Aug. 19 will feature poet Drizzle Rainman with music by renowned trumpeter Marcus Belgrave.

The Detroit Public Library is at 5201 Woodward. For more information, contact the library at 313-833-4042.
