Piano Teacher Training Workshop - “Focus On Jazz"

Learn to incorporate jazz into studio piano teaching

July 8, 2006 * 9:00 - 5:00
Worthington, OH (Columbus suburb)

Every piano teacher knows the pattern. Around the age of 12 - 14, some students get bored with classical music and yearn to play something jazzy. Many teachers rely on written arrangements to try to keep such a student engaged but this doesn't satisfy their desire to improvise jazz, play by ear or perform from a fake book. This workshop will outline the techniques I use to teach jazz and show teachers how to integrate these concepts into 5 - 10 mintues of their weekly lessons. It is designed for traditional piano teachers regardless of their prior experience playing or teaching jazz but is also open to all pianists of at least intermediate ability.
