Leo Genovese
He also performs regularly with the Esperanza Spalding Group, the Mike Tucker Quartet, Planet Safety (w/Bob Gullotti and Dave Zinno), Wayne Shorter Group and Jack Dejohnette. When he’s not touring with Spalding, Genovese – who is currently based in New York – also plays with a loosely assembled group called the Chromatic Gauchos, whose core membership includes Bob Gulloti, Dan Blake and John Lockwood. This threesome, along with Spalding and percussionist Sergio Miranda, appears prominently on Seeds. While Genovese is still early on his career arc, he hopes that his music could eventually be more than just a source of entertainment, but also a force for change in a world that is troubled by economic, social and political challenges.

Frank Carlberg: Dream Machine

Even after who-knows-how-many-years and who-knows-how-many-piano players, it is still outright amazing how each player approaches his/her instrument. Each has their own history, memory and/or love affair that somehow needs telling. Recorded in 2024 at the New York Forward Festival in Brooklyn, Grammy winning ("Best Improvised Jazz Solo," 2023) pianist Leo Genovese--his passions on his sleeve--takes his bench. He begins as many do: on a dreamy hunt and peck. A note here, a note there, looking for the elusive ...

Sometimes the semiology around an album can tell you more about it than any amount of words attempting to describe the music itself. And the semiology around Milton + esperanza is eloquent. It begins with the overlap with another summer 2024 release, Wayne Shorter's magical double-album Celebration Volume 1 (Blue Note), a previously unreleased recording of Shorter's Quartet in concert in 2014, with liner notes written by Shorter's wife Carolina. Now consider the overlap. Wayne Shorter recorded with ...

Available on April 21, 2015 Brooklyn-based Red Piano Records is proud to announce the release of Shadows and Reflections from pianists/composers Frank Carlberg and Leo Genovese. The recording sessions for this album came about in an atmosphere of friendship, common musical interests, and in anticipation of great fun. Carlberg (also a partner in Red Piano Records) commented, I've known Leo for many years and have always admired his playing and attitude. Playing with him is very easy and always fun!" ...
