Judd Nielsen

Born and raised in the heart of New York City, Judd's musical journey was ignited by his parents' deep affection for the rich tapestry of Jazz, Soul, and the vibrant melodies of New Orleans. His early immersion in a diverse musical landscape led him to embrace the keyboard and piano, shaping his distinctive soulful style. Inspired by the legendary Dr. Lonnie Smith, whom he encountered at the iconic Smoke jazz club during his high school years, Judd embarked on a quest to master the Hammond organ, finding mentorship under luminaries like Seleno Clarke and the esteemed Smith himself.

Under the dimly lit ambiance of American Legion Post 398 in Harlem, Judd honed his craft amidst the pulsating rhythms of Sunday-night jam sessions, absorbing the essence of the mighty B3. This nurturing environment, frequented by jazz luminaries, became the crucible where Judd forged his unique approach to the instrument. Today, as a resident of Philadelphia, he continues to mesmerize audiences with his soul-stirring performances, gracing renowned venues like Bob and Barbara's Lounge with his electrifying presence. With a diverse repertoire and a penchant for collaboration, Judd Nielsen's musical odyssey continues to captivate listeners across genres, leaving an indelible mark on the jazz landscape.

​Nielsen has performed with a plethora of artists and bands spanning different genres. Over the years his musical experiences have included Walter "Wolfman" Washington and the Roadmasters, Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue, Melvin Sparks, Big Daddy Kane, The James Hunter Six and Lee Fields and The Expressions.
