Glam Sam And His Combo

Glam Sam and his Combo is the brain child of Mats Samuelsson, a Stockholm-based journalist, writer and music lover.

Back in the days he got involved in a promising indie jazz-pop duo in Sweden, but after a couple of fine demos the dudes quit the game and returned to university.

Suddenly, too many years later, Mr Samuelsson stepped out as Glam Sam, formed his Combo and started a musical adventure based on pure joy. Only one thing was settled: the music should be, must be and will be: Groovy!

During a year of inspirational fun, the debut album evolved and got filled with all the things Glam Sam loves about music: the jazz, the disco, the funk and the soul, the grooves and the coolness as well as fun samples and top vocals. The bubbling jazzy and funky rhythm section is accompanied with swaying pianos, rhodes, groovy guitars and organs, playful horns and, yeah, some vibraphones as well.

The 18-track strong debut album is called “Groovy!” – the sounds to make you smile, dig, lounge and dance.Yeah, it’s good! It’s groovy!

“Love your tunes!! Puts me back in the Friday mood. Mmmmm”, says the wonderful Hilde Louise Asbjornsen, Norwegian jazz singer.

Mark Gentry, a groovy man with the weekly radio show Soul Heaven, is on the move too:
“If you like jazz influenced dance grooves then this will be just up your street! Full of good tunes that will get you up out of your seat and onto your feet. You will get your groove on!! I predict that this album will receive the worldwide recognition as it so rightly deserves.”

Soon, the second album “The Paradise Groove” followed, with deepened dance floor vibes. And the radio DJs got the groove on in Brazil and London, in Germany and Spain...

Then there were the EPs, a series of brilliant EPs, and in 2014 it was time to celebrate Glam Sam’s strong output of the past years with the best-ff album “Feeling Groovy – Glam Sam’s Greatest Hits”.

End of story? Not really. In the autumn of 2015 Glam Sam announced his great comeback. It was time to offer some pure coolness again… This time he brought a bunch of good funky friends to the studio to create the happiest block party vibes that Stockholm has to offer. The album is named Stockholm City Soul, featuring Glam Sam with Anthony Mills, Prop Dylan, Rapper KC, Biker Boy, John Morales and Karen Gibson Roc.

After a break when Samuelsson spend some years concentrating on his writing (and published a couple of novels), he retruned to music and joined forces with the powerful UK singer-songwriter Angelina on their striking new album “Talkin’ In Colour”, released on 19 June 2026 by Lemon Jazz Records, Germany. The record blends jazz, soul, funk, and storytelling into a bold and cinematic collaboration.

Think smoky jazz clubs, bohemian poetry, and deep funk grooves colliding on the same late-night dancefloor, where Angelina’s voice cuts through the haze – intense, remarkable, roaring with mighty emotion. The chemistry between groove and voice feels like pure alchemy.

The partnership began in the summer of 2025 when producer Mats Samuelsson (aka Glam Sam And His Combo) discovered Angelina’s voice on the track “Golden Day” from the Monks Road Social project’s debut album “Down The Willows”, which featured artists like Mick Talbot (The Style Council) and Dr. Robert (The Blow Monkeys).

“Her voice just knocked me over,” says Mats. “It’s so cool and unique. I had to work with her.”

What started as a simple exchange of musical ideas quickly evolved into a full creative partnership. Glam Sam initially sent a few instrumental tracks to see if Angelina connected with them lyrically and vocally. Within a handful of emails, the pair had their first songs together, and soon an album was born.

The result is “Talkin’ In Colour”, a record that moves effortlessly between Funk-driven dance grooves, dreamy Jazz soundscapes, smoky Soul, and storytelling Folk-Blues. The duo’s contrasting backgrounds – Glam Sam’s groove-rich productions and Angelina’s raw, poetic songwriting and her spellbinding voice – create a sound that is both intimate and expansive. The album is going to be released on 19 June by the German label Lemon Jazz Records. Stay tuned!

Tracks like “Fingertips” showcase this dynamic. This hypnotic and atmospheric piece became a deeply personal tribute to Angelina’s late father, artist Johnny Grimshaw, known as the “Oil Paint Poet”. Blending spoken word, sultry grooves, and psychedelic guitar energy, the track invites listeners into the immersive world of art and memory, where sound, colour, and emotion intertwine.

Another anthem is “I Talk In Colour”, which dips into groove-heavy Jazz, Funk, and Soul, layered with poetic storytelling and vintage bohemian atmosphere. Inspired by the dizzy intensity of new love, the song unfolds like a late-night film scene in a smoky 1970s attic apartment. Two versions appear on the album – the cinematic “Brixton Jazz Edit” and the freer, dancefloor-ready “Disco Jazz Explosion”.

And a track like the beautiful “Runaway Trains” has already earned airplay on Jazz FM, Solar Radio and other tastemaker stations across the UK.

“It’s about breaking free from a rut, taking a chance, and believing in something better,” says Angelina. “Let’s be runaway trains and get out of here!”

The album artwork features a stunning oil painting by Johnny Grimshaw, Angelina’s father, adding a personal touch to the project. The painting reflects the emotive themes explored in the music – raw, intimate and beautifully crafted. Talkin’ In Colour, for sure.

Yes, Glam Sam And His Combo is back to stay, back to groove! An EP of instrumentals, named Instrumentals In Colour, will make the groovers happy during the summer of 2026.

And then the man brings new life to his most beloved classics. An album with ten gems for the dancefloor and the jazz club, lightly remastered, will see the light in October 2026:
