Andre Canniere

Andre Canniere is an acclaimed trumpet player, composer and educator currently based in London. Originally from the US, Canniere spent the first five years of his career in New York City where he worked with artists such as Maria Schneider and Darcy James Argue. Canniere has toured widely throughout the United States and Europe with performances at Wigmore Hall, Carnegie Hall, Birdland, the London Jazz Festival, The Hague Jazz Festival and the Rochester International Jazz Festival.

Since his arrival in the UK, Canniere’s profile has been steadily rising, both as a solo artist and a collaborator. As a solo artist he has released two critically acclaimed albums for the Whirlwind Recordings label. Canniere’s debut Forward Space received rave reviews from the press in 2012 including a five star Guardian review. Jazzwise Magazine hailed it as "one of the best recordings in a long time" and included it in their ‘Albums of the Year’ list. Coalescence, released in 2013, was also lauded by the press and firmly established Canniere as “one of the most compelling artists on the current London jazz scene” (The Scotsman).

In addition to his work as a bandleader and composer, Canniere maintains an active career as a sideman and session musician. He holds the trumpet chair in several London based bands including Henrik Jensen’s Followed By Thirteen, Dee Byrne’s Entropi and the Overground Collective and has collaborated with many of the UK’s most celebrated jazz musicians including Michael Janisch, Jasper Hoiby, Ivo Neame, Jim Hart, James Maddren and Alice Zawadzki. Canniere is equally at home outside the usual jazz circuit, having performed in bands on Britain’s Got Talent and with well-known acts such as Augustines and Stooshe.

Canniere is highly passionate about music education and has led workshops and masterclasses at universities and schools throughout the United States and Europe. He is currently Head of Jazz at the Highgate School and teaches jazz at Surbiton High School and the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London.
