About the Album
There’s nothing trumpeter Steve Bernstein likes more than a challenge, whether it be with his own groundbreaking bands like Sex Mob and Millennial Territory Orchestra or his collaborations with everyone from Levon Helm to Laurie Anderson. For his latest trick he’s assembled a daring acoustic trio with fellow improv greats Scott Colley (bass) and Nasheet Waits (drums) for material which showcases his valve trumpet and flugelhorn work. The track “Woodstock” shows the hard-driving side of this trio as Waits begins with a beat that combines swing with hip-hop strut, setting the stage for Bernstein and Colley to weave in and out of the groove.
