"The Alchemist" is the title track from trombonist, multi-instrumentalist, and composer Scott Reeves' album The Alchemist out July 16, 2021 via Origin Records. When the pandemic caused performance opportunities to dwindle, the newly retired Reeves found himself with an abundance of free time. Among the projects he took on was revisiting his archives and unearthing a previously unheard 2005 live date by the Scott Reeves Quintet with Reeves on alto flugelhorn, alto valve trombone and electronics, guitarist Russ Spiegel, pianist/keyboardist Mike Holober, bassist Howard Britz,
