“I wrote this music for someone else’s story only to realize I was writing my own story,” says the breathtaking and daring vocalist, composer, and multi-disciplinary artist Sara Serpa, who has in the past resisted writing her own lyrics. Now she’s made her most compelling album to date, exploring themes of migration, family, birth, loss, music and home. Serpa’s powerful artistic vision is matched by her collaborators: saxophonist Ingrid Laubrock, pianist Angelica Sanchez and cellist Erik Friedlander. Serpa has also crafted an accompanying book featuring her hand drawn comic strip-style illustrations.
