New York-based Marcelo Maccagnan is an artist whose music is a refreshing blend of different styles and creative ideas. On his latest album, Looking Ahead, Maccagnan has delivered a collection of exotic, sharply sculpted instrumentals that fascinate and awaken the senses. His electrifying bass playing casts a hypnotic spell but each of his fellow musicians are given opportunities to shine, too.

On Looking Ahead, Maccagnan is able to seamlessly combine the inner elegance and warmth of jazz with the colorful vibrancy of genres such as samba and Brazilian music. The result is a sound that's tinged with beautiful chord arrangements, tuneful melodies, progressive ideas, and groovy beats, which really bring the music someplace else at each twist and turn. Looking Ahead is a dynamic and intriguing effort with a smooth and highly appealing vibe. Maccagnan makes this music accessible even to those who might not be "in the know" in this particular genre.

In addition to his solid arrangements, Maccagnan's skills as a performer and composer are impressive. He loves to come up with strong ideas and powerful hooks, making for a unique and interesting feel. By combining his Brazilian roots with contemporary jazz, Maccagnan balances past and present to create something familiar yet new at the same time.
