Roberto Fonseca: Live in Marciac

Dopo un lavoro professionale che risale alla fine degli anni novanta (già il suo debutto, En El Comienzo assieme al sassofonista Javier Zalba fu definito miglior disco cubano del 1999) il trentacinquenne pianista Roberto Fonseca è la nuova star del latin jazz isolano e questo CD/DVD ne celebra il successo anche presso il pubblico europeo.

Com'è noto è stato il suo coinvolgimento nel tour del Buena Vista Social Club, quando sostituì al piano Rubén González, a dargli ampia notorietà ma Roberto ha saputo imporre negli anni la sua musica: una miscela dalla forte componente jazzistica e dalla cantabile, spesso ammaliante, fragranza melodica.

È il concerto live presentato al Festival di Marciac l'oggetto del CD e del DVD di quest'ottima produzione Enja, ben curata negli aspetti sonori e nel filmato, che non si propone come una mera sovrapposizione del repertorio nei due supporti: nel DVD troviamo infatti altri quattro brani dell'esibizione per oltre mezz'ora di musica, con ampio spazio alle dinamiche percussive.

Il repertorio è costituito da brani ripresi dai due album appena precedenti, Akokan del 2009 e Zamazu del 2007, i dischi della definitiva affermazione internazionale del pianista e le versioni live svelano tutta la fragranza della sua musica.

Il concerto inizia con una lunga rielaborazione strumentale sulla melodia "Misa popular" che nella versione in studio era un breve frammento affidato alla voce di Omara Portuondo ed ora si snoda con un bello sviluppo jazzistico affidato al contralto di Javier Zalba. In filigrana appaiono influenze di Pat Metheny (e di Sanborn nel sassofonista) ed il clima è quello d'una fusion elegante e briosa.

Anche altri brani si muovono all'interno di queste coordinate, con belle parentesi percussive nella parte centrale del concerto dove hanno piena evidenza il percussionista Joel Hierrezuelo ("Lento y Despacio Continuation") e il batterista Ramsés Rodriguez ("Se Te La Vida") entrambi magistrali.

Fonseca è un maestro nel coinvolgere il pubblico, con un variopinto repertorio che alterna concitati sviluppi virtuosistici a momenti lirici (come lo struggente "Llego Cachaito"). Stilisticamente le novità sono poche (questo l'unico limite) e la musica privilegia i modelli della fusion jazzistica: il coinvolgimento è però assicurato ed il finale tipicamente cubano è magistrale.

Un brano che vale tutto il disco.
