Regala piacevoli emozioni questo disco di Rachel Eckroth, pianista jazz e cantautrice di valore, che disegna un percorso raffinato ed eclettico. Dieci brani che coniugano l'inventiva e la ricercatezza timbrico-armonica di jazz e soul con liriche melodie pop, esaltate dall'intima passione di Rachel.
Il disco necessita di più ascolti per svelare appieno il suo fascino: ogni canzone è eseguita da organici diversi e si avvale di riuscite orchestrazioni che fondono sonorità acustiche ed elettriche, sostenendo il nitido e suadente canto. Siamo sullo stesso terreno in cui si muovono Norah Jones e Madeleine Peyroux ma la musicista di Phoenix evidenzia autonomia sia come autrice che come interprete, senza temere confronti.

Dopo aver debuttato come pianista jazz con Kevin Thomas al contrabbasso e Chris Benham alla batteria nel pregevole Mind (CD Baby, 2005), la Eckroth mostra ora di sapersi reinventare in questa nuova veste, evidenziando fantasia e personalità. Nata e cresciuta in Arizona in una famiglia di musicisti, ha messo in luce le sue doti pianistiche già negli anni delle scuole superiori. Giunta a New York nel 2001 s'è laureata qualche anno dopo alla Rutgers University e ha iniziato a farsi conoscere nei club.

Quest'album nasce dopo una pausa di riflessione a Phoenix e il successivo ritorno a Brooklyn, dove la Eckroth costruisce il nuovo progetto incoraggiata dal produttore Jesse Fischer. Questi ha svolto un ruolo significativo, rivestendo il suo intimo canto con variopinti arrangiamenti. I momenti memorabili sono più d'uno: la notturna e intensa "Let Go," il dinamico "A Million Dream," la lirica torch song "Dark and Dreamy."
