Kattt Atchley: Late Night Phone Call
Edgetone Records' 2-CD Late Night Phone Call is framed around a melody created by vocalist/improviser Kattt Atchley. More than just a collection of experimental tracks; it is a sonic journey through the depths of the human psyche, a late-night conversation with the subconscious. The album's eclectic blend of styles, from the haunting electronic landscapes to the cosmic journeys, mirrors the complexity and fluidity of our inner thoughts.

greensatan's "Devil's Maze No. 8, Late Night Invocation" is a particularly haunting piece, drawing listeners into a labyrinth of sound that is both disorienting and enchanting. The intricate layers of synthesizers and airy vocals create a sense of unease and wonder, reflecting the often-contradictory emotions that arise in the quiet of night.

Maggi Payne's "Floating Through Space and Time" offers a stark contrast, transporting listeners on a serene cosmic journey. The ethereal melodies and subtle ambient passages evoke a sense of weightlessness and peace, providing a much-needed respite from the album's more intense moments. And Kris Force's "Hypnagogia" delves even deeper into the surreal, blending synth and voice processing to create a dreamlike atmosphere. The track's lush, layered textures and ethereal vocals capture the sensation of drifting into slumber during a late-night conversation, reminding us that even in the most mundane of moments, there is a certain magic to be found.

David Slusser's "Dubai" injects a burst of energy into the album with its inventive riff-building and sharp effects. It is a reminder that even in the most experimental of musical landscapes, there is always room for a good old-fashioned groove. Yet Dan Carbone's "There's a Puppet Regime Inside My Head" is a delightfully absurd piece that is equal parts funny and thought-provoking. It is like a late-night conversation with a particularly eccentric friend who has had one too many drinks, offering a glimpse into the absurdity that often surfaces in our late-night reflections.

Late Night Phone Call reflects the human condition, a journey through the depths of the psyche. The album's eclectic blend of styles and its exploration of themes such as loneliness, isolation, and the power of the imagination make it an utterly unique and unforgettable listening experience. (Details of instrumentation are not included on the sleeve).
