Jurg Wickihalder European Quartet feat. Irene Schweizer: Jump !
Wickihalden è un ottimo sassofonista della scena free svizzera, già validissimo collaboratore di Irene Schweizer, Pierre Favre e l'Omri Ziegele Billiger Bauer. Ma sul suo più recente disco pesano due influenze che alla fine lo rendono per lo più derivativo. Sia pur con liberi innesti di free-form di maniera, le cinque tracce guardano a Monk e Lacy lasciandosene purtroppo irretire.

Un risultato inferiore alle attese se si considera la formidabile formazione allestita, che vede impegnata al pianoforte Irene Schweizer. La presenza di quest'ultima serve a risollevare un po' l'esercizio stilistico del leader, che pare incapace di dare un'impronta forte e personale alla musica che si sente in questo disco.

Ma, nell'insieme, l'articolazione melodica, dinamica e timbrica di brani non si eleva al di sopra di una prudente circospetta navigazione lungo il free storico. È la testimonianza di come questa corrente possa diventare estetizzante al pari del mainstream, se non sostenuto da idee forti e visionarie.
